scans processed in 2025
We've pushed the boundaries of camera-based barcode scanners for over 15 years, leading to these innovations available today:
- Context-awareness: AI techniques that eliminate accidental scans by locking onto the target barcode and ignoring any others in your camera view. It adapts to any barcode type, condition, and environment based on real-time device inputs.
- Batch scanning and AR: One-press scanning of multiple barcodes and augmented reality (AR) overlays that show users what to pick, skip, or flag on their screens.
- Pre-built workflows: Ready-to-deploy modes that help users complete specific tasks with no development guesswork.
- Rapid integration: Built-in UX patterns, error handling, edge cases, and agentic AI support to get you into production fast.
Scandit software runs on over 20,000 models of smart device, including smartphones, tablets, handheld computers, and low-end devices that lack auto-focus.
Why do these features matter?
Over 10 billion barcodes are scanned every day. Barcode scanning remains the cornerstone of inventory management and logistics in retail, healthcare, manufacturing, supply chain, post and parcel, air travel, and more.
As shown by Scandit's strategic relationship with Walmart and deployment to 1.3 million associates, enhancing barcode scanning leads to large-scale efficiency gains and improvements in data accuracy that increase the ability of businesses to plan and forecast.
Why choose Scandit barcode scanning software?
Inventory management, in-store order fulfillment, last-mile delivery, healthcare, and workflows yet to be seen are no match for the Scandit Vision AI Engine. It combines 15+ years of real-world barcode, label, and ID scanning experience with today's computing and camera power to deliver unmatched efficiency and accuracy.
Battle-tested across hundreds of billions of scans on myriad device fleets, Scandit software delivers unmatched efficiency and accuracy.
- Decode speeds of 480 scans per minute, comfortably faster than any human needs (any decode under 200ms feels instant to human perception).
- Accuracy consistently >99% for the barcode symbologies and conditions most apps target.
- Zero false positives for all major barcode types.
- Seamless barcode scanning in less-than-ideal conditions: tiny, torn, damaged, curved, or shiny barcodes, long scan ranges, low light, and extreme angles.
- Minimum barcode resolution as low as 0.5 pixels per thin barcode element.
- Minimum camera resolution 240x320 pixels.
The Scandit context-aware AI engine helps eliminate unintentional scans, a result of the environments Yuka users usually scan products in ... where barcodes are heavily prevalent.
The Scandit Vision AI Engine
The Vision AI Engine is the intelligence behind the Scandit Smart Data Capture Platform, powering our barcode scanning, ID scanning, label scanning, and ShelfView products. It's designed to return the correct barcode every time, even under changing user and environmental conditions, such that bad data never enters your system.
The Scandit Vision AI Engine solves these critical barcode scanning challenges for you:
- Eliminating accidental scans: AI analyzes the entire camera scene to lock onto the target barcode and ignore the others, preventing unwanted captures and wasted effort.
- Selecting barcodes in dense environments: AI detects when many barcodes appear close together and automatically enables a visual overlay to help users select the right one—it's smart enough not to guess for you.
- Handling damaged or unreadable barcodes: When a barcode is too damaged or degraded to decode reliably, AI falls back to optical character recognition (OCR) and extracts the human-readable text instead.
- Filtering duplicates: AI tracks barcodes across frames to separate intentional duplicate scans from accidental re-scans.
When users don't have to worry about the mechanics of scanning, they can capture items faster and worry less about double-checking their data.
In this demo video, one of our product managers walks through the impact of these features.
Multiple barcode scanning and AR
One press is all it takes to capture every barcode in view simultaneously. No processing delays, battery drain, or forced rescans—Scandit's MatrixScan products ensure that no label is lost or scanned twice, even when they're small, curved, damaged, or captured by lower-quality mobile cameras.
After capture, AR overlays help users make smarter decisions about which tasks to perform next. It could be high-volume workflows to find items fast or helping customers see product details on the floor.
- MatrixScan Count to improve receiving, inventory count, stock taking, and cycle counting efficiency. Up to 20X faster.
- MatrixScan Find to help frontline workers and customers find products, parcels, and pallets instantly using AR. Up to a 30% increase in pick rate.
- MatrixScan Batch to capture all barcodes in view with one press, including multi-code labels. Up to a 50% reduction in shipment processing.
- MatrixScan Augmented Reality to accelerate workflows with easy-to-customize AR overlays. Up to 3X faster product ordering.
All components combine vision AI, AR rendering, and UX logic to improve multiple barcode scanning in these ways:
- Parallel decoding with low latency: The Vision AI Engine uses algorithms optimized to rapidly interpret millions of pixels, enabling it to decode multiple barcodes at once without slowing the user down.
- Reliable duplicate handling: Identifies and tracks each barcode uniquely across frames, which supports accurate counting and reduces false positives—even when items share the same barcode data.
- Persistent tracking through motion: Remembers barcode positions in space as the camera moves, even when labels go outside the field of view.
- Adaptive performance in real conditions: Compensates for blur, glare, poor lighting, curved surfaces, label damage, and lower-resolution camera hardware.
- Stable AR guidance: Keeps visual overlays anchored to physical items with no delays or flickering, improving usability and user confidence.
Choose your entry point
Whether planning your first scan or upgrading your millionth, Scandit software helps you launch quickly and scale reliably.
- Planning a device refresh? Scandit barcode scanning software makes switching to low-cost consumer devices fast and easy. For example, you can deploy AI-powered barcode scanning with just a few lines of code using Scandit SparkScan, or get started with minimal or no reliance on development resources with the Scandit Express app. We also offer guidance on device selection.
- Need to replace poorly performing barcode scanning software? Whether scanning single or multiple barcodes at once, Scandit software provides fast and accurate scanning across a wide range of label and environmental conditions. Our single scanning speed is 480 scans a minute, but that's just the start — any scan speed <200ms per scan feels instant to human perception. More important is our accuracy rate: consistently >99% for the codes and conditions most apps target, plus context-aware scanning that reduces accidental scans to near-zero.
- Mandated to improve productivity? MatrixScan solutions enable up to 20X faster batch scanning and reduce errors across workflows, including stocktaking (MatrixScan Count), in-store order picking (MatrixScan Find), shipment processing (MatrixScan Batch), and product ordering (MatrixScan Augmented Reality).
We evaluated scanning products from about six vendors, and Scandit's Web SDK demonstrated overwhelmingly superior performance.
How to integrate Scandit software
The fastest way to get started with barcode scanning is to use Scandit's Agent Skills. These embed 15 years of Scandit's expertise into your AI coding agent of choice: Anthropic Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Google Gemini Code Assist, OpenAI Codex, OpenCode, and more.
All you need to do is describe what you want in natural language, and Agent Skills do the rest autonomously: Scandit SDK setup, license activation, UI wiring, setting up performance defaults, and tuning for edge cases to avoid.
Here's how Scandit's Agent Skills work:
- You describe your use case in plain language inside your favorite AI coding assistant (e.g., "scan barcodes in a warehouse picking app on Android"). If necessary, the agent will ask questions to fill in the details.
- The data-capture-sdk Agent Skill turns your use case into a specific recommendation for a Scandit product and development framework, grounded in 15 years of real barcode, label, and ID scanning customer integrations.
- The relevant product and framework Agent Skill automatically takes over and writes the integration directly into your codebase. All you need to do is review and test the changes before pushing to production.
The following demo shows how an Agent Skill integrates Smart Label Capture autonomously into an app in around 20 minutes.
All Agent Skills are synchronized with every Scandit SDK release to ensure generated code targets current and validated APIs.
Other integration paths
Scandit software supports three do-it-yourself integration paths to match your skills and timelines:
- Scandit Express provides a no-code option that injects scan data into existing apps on existing devices with no software changes. Includes Smart Label Capture and ready-to-deploy modes for inventory counting, item finding, markdowns and clearances, product recalls, and drug expiry checks.
- Pre-built components for faster ways to add optimized scanning workflows to mobile or web apps with minimal implementation effort: SparkScan, MatrixScan Count, MatrixScan Find.
