Scandit Releases SDK 7.0: Evolving Smart Data Capture with Unprecedented Intelligence and Versatility

Zurich, Switzerland, 21 November 2024 – Scandit, the leader in smart data capture, today launched SDK 7.0 — its smartest SDK (software development kit) to date. SDK 7.0 addresses the toughest scanning challenges, with an array of intelligent additions, across industries including retail, logistics, manufacturing, and air travel.

The enhanced scanning engine within the SDK 7.0 is context-aware, understanding both the environment and user intent to ensure smarter scanning workflows which maximize efficiency, deliver unparalleled accuracy even in challenging conditions, and reduce costly errors.

The key updates include:

• Smart Scan Intention: This new feature takes into account the contextual environment and intelligently anticipates user intent, ensuring that the correct barcode is scanned even with imprecise aiming. For both frontline workers and customers, this reduces errors, inefficiency, and frustration stemming from scanning the wrong barcode in environments where there may be several such as grocery aisles or warehouses. Unwanted scans are reduced by up to 100%, significantly decreasing time-intensive processes and associated costs such as order picking.

• Smart Label Capture: Enables multi-modal data capture, extracting barcode and text data from labels simultaneously and making complex data entry up to 7 times faster. Ideal for labels containing serial numbers, weights, or expiry dates, it improves accuracy, reduces errors, and prevents revenue loss from incorrect information. One US company avoided $1.3m in revenue loss due to undercharging from incorrect label interpretation.
• Upgraded SparkScan User Interface (UI): Now with a more minimalistic UI that fits into any application, regardless of whether designed for employee or consumer use. The UI is also adaptable based on the environment and movement of the user. New customization options enable product managers and user experience (UX) teams to tailor it to their specific app needs without compromising the design or UX.
• Smarter ID validation: The detection of void IDs is added within ID Validate to identify expired or damaged documents without the need for a manual review or an employee present, while fake ID detection accuracy has increased to 99.9%. The user experience in onboarding flows, such as driver registration, has been enhanced while maintaining the 1 second scanning speed.

SDK 7.0 performance updates include 20% better battery life to extend device uptime and a 65% longer scan range delivering faster and more ergonomic scanning for tiny barcodes, such as those used on cosmetic products and electronic shelf labels (ESLs) which can often be in hard-to-reach locations. Extended platform support sees MatrixScan Batch, MatrixScan Find, and MatrixScan AR now available for web applications.
